Calling All Passionate Filipino American Teens:

FilAm Arts Launches FilAm Teen Council!

Calling all Filipino American teens aged 13-19 with a passion for arts, culture, and making a difference! The Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture (FilAm Arts) is proud to announce its pilot program, the FilAm Teen Council!

This exciting, donation-based program is your chance to co-create the future of the renowned Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC), a beloved Los Angeles tradition for over 30 years!

The FilAm Teen Council is a Culturally Relevant Program for You!

  • Explore your identity: Dive deep into Filipino American history, culture, and the power of arts to connect communities.

  • Develop leadership skills: Learn valuable skills like planning, organizing, and project management to bring your ideas to life.

  • Shape FPAC's future: Work alongside experienced mentors, like Maurus Dumalaog, to design activities, curate performances, and help plan the 2024 FPAC!

  • Create your voice: Explore how art and activism can address issues you care about.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Dates: Two sessions, each 3 hours long. Attend at least one on July 24 or 31, 5pm-8pm. (Select participants who attend both dates are eligible for a chance to receive Meta Raybans.)

  • Location: Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles (exact location provided upon acceptance)

  • Who should apply: Filipino American teens 13-19 years old. Passionate about Filipino American culture (or interested in learning more!), creative with a desire to make a difference, and enjoy working in a team environment.

Maurus Dumalaog, who is a local HiFi native, community organizer, artist and entrepreneur will be leading the FilAm Teen Council sessions, shares his enthusiasm for the program: "This is an incredible opportunity for Fil-Am teens to explore their heritage, develop leadership skills, and make a real impact on a major cultural event like FPAC. I'm excited to mentor and collaborate with these passionate young minds to help develop their ideas for cultivating creative community engagement and cultural preservation!"
