Mental Health First Aid Training for Asian American Parents
Ami Patel is a second-year doctoral student in school psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is a second-generation South Asian Indian American who is deeply passionate about and invested in mental health promotion within our South Asian and Southeast Asian communities, groups that are so often underrepresented in conversations around mental health.
With that said, she is actively recruiting South Asian and Southeast Asian American parents of teens between the ages of 10-20 for her project titled “Cultural Adaptation and Effectiveness of YMHFA for South Asian and Southeast Asian American Parents and Teens.” More info about YMHFA can be found at
https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/ and https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/about/research/mhfa-doctoral-student-grants/.
Recruiting this demographic can be especially challenging given the stigma around mental health in these communities; however, she is optimistic with any help! If you or someone you know may be interested, please take a look at the flyer and sign-up using the sign-up link/QR code.
