The Filipino community of Los Angeles has a deep history of fighting to claim space and create the Filipino cultural hub we have today. But what does this struggle look like in other places and how can we strengthen our connections across movements to foster a stronger global Filipino community?
The untold story of Filipinos in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood is screening in four Filipino diaspora communities San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose on the SA AMIN: OUR PLACE California Tour!
SA AMIN tells the story of how Filipinos are claiming a right to the city, battling against displacement caused by urban renewal, real estate speculation, and tech booms. The film features never before seen archival footage from the late documentary filmmaker Sam Tagatac.
Join us at our city’s upcoming screening of the new documentary “SA AMIN: OUR PLACE” co-directed by Dyan Ruiz who will join the Q &A on Saturday, July 20, 2-4pm, SIPA.
